The Resurrection is detailed in the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Because each of these men wrote their own eyewitness accounts, the details may vary from book to book, so a reading of all four would give a solid account of the events of Jesus’ Resurrection. The Resurrection is in Matthew 28: 1-10, Mark 16: 1-8, Luke 24: 1-12, and John 20: 1-18.
All four accounts are cause for joy and celebration within the Christian.
Our Savior conquered death, hell, and the grave and bodily rose again just as He said He would!!
There is a statement in the account in the book of Luke that really stood out to me.
Luke 24: 1-7 (NKJV): “Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
“Why do you seek the living among the dead?”
What a question!!
People don’t go to gravesites to visit living people. They go to pay respects to the dead.
But, friend, Jesus is NOT dead!
He rose again the third day, just as He said He would.
He took the death penalty for ALL of our sins, defeated hell, and rose victorious over the grave!!
And, there is our hope, friends.
We serve a risen Savior!
Our hope is in HIM, and Him alone.
I Corinthians 15: 12- 28:
12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”
Once we accept His free gift of salvation, we are no longer still in our sins.
We are forgiven.
Our faith is NOT futile.
THIS is why Christians celebrate Resurrection Sunday.
Jesus, our Risen Lord and Savior, is our everlasting hope.
He is risen.
He is risen, indeed!
